Applications are available online at Ontario Colleges. A $95 fee applies. Applications for Fall Term admission received by February 1 will be given equal consideration. Applications received after February 1 will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis as long as places are available. International applicants applying from out-of-country should contact the Registrar's Office. Graduates may be employed in a wide variety of positions in both the public and private sectors as software application developers including web developer, web designer, ecommerce developer, interface designer (UI), user experience designer (UX), project manager, usability tester, mobile application marketer, technical project analyst, junior programmer, web / mobile marketer, entrepreneur, mobile application designer or mobile application developer.

This program is well-suited for students who:
  • Are interested in working with computers and mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • Enjoy working with evolving mobile technology.
  • Have good problem-solving skills.
  • Enjoy the challenge of developing new and creative solutions.
  • Can work well with others as a member of a team and can also work independently.

The professors will provide a list of all the required material for each course at the start of every semester. We recommend following the professor’s suggestions to be as prepared as possible.

Prior knowledge isn’t necessary, however, having some web development or computer programming background will make learning the foundation skills much easier.

Becoming a software applications developer is an incredibly rewarding career choice, but it comes with many challenges. The skills required for this field require many hours of practice and devotion. You will spend many hours each week coding and testing your applications. A PASSION for programming is required. This program requires full-time availability. You will be expected to spend 30-40 hours per week working on assignments. There are a number of languages, platforms, vendors, and tools to learn. But remember, a hard work ethic, a commitment to learning, and a passion for creating apps will bring success.

Having a laptop at school is beneficial, but it is not required. The college provides computer labs for students to work on both during, between and after class.

Many students in our programs find jobs and/or have done some freelance work before even finishing their 3rd year and graduate. Currently application development skills are in high demand as Canada faces a skills shortage in this area.

The college labs contain all the software you required to complete assigned work. A large majority of the software that you will be using is either free or provided as part of educational licensing. Individual courses will specify the required software.

You are required to complete and pass all courses offered by each program in order to graduate. See the list of courses Computer Programmer / Mobile Application Development. Each semester builds on the previous and in some cases, courses require that you successfully complete a previous course before moving being eligible to move on. You will be required to retake any courses that you fail. - See your program coordinator if you have any questions regarding course load, dropping and retaking classes etc.

The college offers free Peer Tutoring and you can always visit you professors during their office hours for extra help. Be sure to ask any questions you may have, the professors are more than willing to help any way possible.

It is recommended that applicants be proficient with basic computer skills, such as keyboarding and the use of an office software suite (word processing and spreadsheets, etc.) prior to the start of the program. Programming experience is not a requirement to enter the program, however having taken a previous computer programming course will help a student decide whether this program is right for them.
