B948 - Internet Applications and Web Development

Internet Applications and Web Development (formerly Web Communications Development) is an Ontario Advance Diploma program in web development with courses in core web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, ASP.NET) plus design software (Photoshop, Video), writing, marketing, communications, and business. Starting in the fall of 2013, the 6 semester program will no longer be offered as a fast track program, instead it will be delivered in the traditional 3 year format. Skills Ontario 2015

The Web program competed for the fifth time in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition in Waterloo on May 5, 2015. We sent two students, Alex Gervais (right) and Cornelius Froese (left). Alex won silver and Cornelius won bronze. Congratulations to both Alex and Cornelius for a great job!

Skills Winners

On Saturday, January 31, 2015 we held our Local Skills competition for students in the web development program. The coding lasted three grueling hours and then was judged. And the winners are:

  2. Alex Gervais
  3. Meghan O'Donnell

Alex Gervais and Cornelius Froese will go to Waterloo in May to compete at Skills Ontario. Devin went last year and won a silver medal. Thanks to Jeff Szusz and Will Comartin, former winners and web alumni, for coming out to help judge and mingle with the students. Also, a special thanks to our sponsor FutureShop Windsor for the great prizes they provided for our winners.

Web Students Win at HackWE Hack-a-thon

HackWE

Meghan O’Donnell and Meagan Park, second year students in the Web Dev program, won best student project at HackWE Hackathon put on by WETech, which finished Oct 26, 2014. Their project involved using data for Ontario endangered species.

HackWE was open to both professional and student developers. The best professional entry went to Parallel 42’s Doug Sartori (part-time instructor in the Web Dev program) and Will Comartin (Web Dev alumni and 2011 Skills Ontario Gold medal winner).

Skills Ontario 2014

The Web program competed for the fourth time in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition in Waterloo on May 6, 2014. We sent two students, Devin Pavao (right) and Ahmad Husseini (left). There were 12 students competing in both secondary and post secondary competitions. Devin won silver. Congratulations to both Devin and Ahmed for a great effort!

Local Skills 2014

On Saturday, February 3 we held our 4th annual web development skills competition. First place went to Devin Pavao, second place to Ahmad Husseini, and third place to Sriharsha Alla. Devin and Ahmed will go on to compete at the Ontario Skills competition on May 6 in Waterloo. Congratulations to everyone who competed!
